<video:description>Welcome to The Prodigal Journey where we have conversations about Faith, Struggle, and Becoming. In this episode I talk to one of my pastors, Will Broadus, from Reconcile Community Church. We talk about how he came to faith in Christ, some of his journey in missions, and what led him back to the states to plant a church in one of the most poverty stricken neighborhoods of Greenville County. <video:title>Eroding or Refining? Navigating Toxic Environments</video:title>
<video:description>Welcome To The Prodigal Journey! How do you know when a hard season at work is actually shaping you, versus when its quietly breaking you? I think a lot of us - especially if youre a person of faith - have been taught to endure, to stay, to be faithful no matter what. To be the light in dark places. And theres truth in that. But what happens when the place youre in isnt just difficult, its unhealthy? When it starts affecting your clarity, your peace, your physical health, even your sense of who you are? In this episode we want to talk about something that I think a lot of people are silently walking through: how to discern whether you should stay in a toxic work environment... or whether its actually time to walk away. Ive lived through a season like this - thankfully Im out of that - and on the other side, there were clear patterns. So I want to talk about the patterns, the lessons, and the things I wish I understood earlier. If youve ever felt stuck, conflicted, or even guilty for wanting to leave a situation that doesnt feel right, this episode is for you. Questions to Think Through: - What type of response do you receive when bringing up a concern (avoidance, aggression, silence, humor, withdrawal, etc.)? - What phrases do people commonly use to excuse unhealthy behavior (e.g., Thats just how they are, Weve always done it this way)? - What makes it difficult for people to speak up when they notice unhealthy patterns? - Do you want to become like the leaders you are following? Challenge to Managers/Supervisors: - What behaviors are you allowing and modeling? - Are good employees leaving and bad employees staying? - Can you receive feedback? - Are you in denial?
